Brown Bear
Alaska has about 98% of the U.S. Brown Bear population. About 30,000. This includes the Grizzly and Kodiak subspecies. The latter is only found on Kodiak Island and is the largest type of brown bear in the world.
Black Bear
As many as 100,000 black bears live in Alaska.
Polar Bear
Two polar bear sub- populations exist within the United States including the Southern Beaufort Sea sub-population (900 bears estimate) and the Chukchi/ Bering Sea sub-population (estimate unavailable)
