Denali National Park and Preserve is visited by 432,000 people each year, and no wonder. The park is home to a variety of wildlife including moose, bear, wolf, eagle, lynx and caribou which can be seen by visitors against a backdrop of impressive scenery. The wilderness of Denali National Park encompasses 160 miles of the Alaska Range which is dominated by Mount McKinley.
Mount McKinley, known simply as “Denali” by Alaskans, is the highest mountain in North America at 20,237 feet.
Visitor-management strategies, including closing the only road to most vehicles, has kept Denali National Park largely unchanged in the last 20 years. The Park road is closed to private vehicles after mile 14, but you can ride the Park Shuttle or take a private tour.
