Valdez Kid’s Pink Salmon Derby

Pink salmon are a great introduction to fishing for kids because the pinks are plentiful, easily accessible and a lot of fun to catch. This event is part of the annual Valdez Fish Derbies. Kids win great prizes and the family friendly barbecue tops off the fun day. Bring the family, and watch your kids get hooked on fishing in Valdez, Alaska!
Kids ages 5-16 can participate in the Kid’s Pink Salmon Fishing Derby for free. The Kids Fishing Derby takes place in July. There is a free BBQ and kids can win prizes and take part in fun games.
2023 Kids Pink Salmon Derby Prizes
$100 CASH and 2 fishing poles per division!
Kids Derby prizes can be picked up at the weigh-in station on Chitina Drive!
9am to 8pm – SUNDAY, July 23rd
How It Works
Only photos uploaded between 6:01 am and Midnight Saturday, July 22nd will be eligible for prizes!
KIDS DERBY HATS AVAILABLE AT Valdez Fish Derbies Weigh-In Station 6am to 10am – Saturday, July 22nd
1. Free Valdez Kids Derby Hat available to Children age 5 to16
* One hat per child
* Child must be present at weigh-in between 6am to 10am to pick up hat
* Please stay in your car and drive by the weigh-in & volunteer will hand you hat(s)
2. Take a Picture that includes: Pink Salmon, One Child & Hat (either on the kid or the fish!)
* One Child per picture please – that child will be entered to win prizes
* If you have multiple children, enter them separately – Submit ONE ENTRY FORM per Child
3. Picture must be taken on Saturday, July 22nd and submitted by midnight
4. Please include Contact Information so we can get a hold of you when you win!
5. Kids Derby Prize Pick-Up Hours are Sunday July 23rd 9am-8pm at the weigh-in!
6. Do NOT weigh-in your fish at weigh-in station – Photo entries will only be taken online
